while camping & hiking mt whitney, we began joking that so many of the things that we like to do are gear heavy activities. in prep for that one weekend, i must have made a half dozen trips to REI, as well as loading up on borrowed equipment from friends - this, all in addition to everything i already owned. but even as i stocked up for the trip, i still saw my list growing - as it would be nice to not have to borrow so much. beyond the hiking poles, headlamps, sleeping pad, etc - i decided to write down everything else i wanted before i bought anything - an attempt to curb impulsive shopping. it's a long one, including a single kayak, paddle board, road bike, new beach cruiser, 2 person tent, smaller day backpack..... and that is only the tip of the iceberg. and if my girl friend (post baby) and i finally get certified to scuba as well as sail, well then that's a whole other list.... but last night, my friend told me about the annual REI used equipment sale in encinitas this weekend, and how i could probably get some of the random pieces (not sure i'll be looking into a used sleeping bag) i've been wanting. he was so excited for what i imagine to be a giant yard sale, but i am sure tomorrow we will end up packing up my truck with some kind of gear.
