It's well known that California has beautiful state parks, which can also include excellent camping. For the highly desirable camp grounds, reservations book up well in advance of trips.
Cardiff's State Beach opens reservations six months in advance. And it's no joke, spots get swooped up so fast! I was lucky enough a couple months ago to secure one spot (only three were open at the time) for a Sunday night (the other nights were booked) for October 3. It actually worked out great, as a birthday celebration of surfing, grilling and enjoying the outdoors. The campsites were a good size (holds up to 8 people and 3 cars), the facilities well kept, and most had a canopy of foliage to protect from the elements. While Bull Taco is a perk, and a local favorite, the best part of Cardiff State Beach is how close it is to the ocean. Once your tucked away in your sleeping back, you can doze off and enjoy the calming sounds of waves crashing. It was a perfect evening, and we didn't even stop to think that we were only less than 1/2 mile from our comfy king size bed.
